MAKE NUMBERS VISIBLE

What Are MAB Blocks?

MAB Blocks are a Base Ten maths manipulative that lets students physically build and compare quantities. Instead of asking a child to understand place value only from written numbers, the blocks provide a visual and hands-on representation of how our Base Ten number system works.

Students can physically exchange groups of ten units for a rod, ten rods for a flat and ten flats for a larger base block, helping make the relationship between place values easier to see.

ONE RESOURCE • MANY MATHS CONCEPTS

What Can You Teach with MAB Blocks?

🔢 Place Value Represent ones, tens, hundreds and thousands using physical blocks. ➕ Operations Explore addition, subtraction and regrouping using quantities students can see and move. 🔟 Base Ten Demonstrate how ten units relate to a ten, ten tens relate to a hundred and so on. 📏 Measurement The centimetre scoring provides opportunities to explore length, area and volume. ½ Fractions & Decimals Use the relationship between blocks to explore parts of a whole and decimal representations. 🧠 Number Concepts Compare quantities, build numbers and investigate relationships between different values.

👩🏫 FOR TEACHERS, SCHOOLS & HOME LEARNING

A Versatile Maths Manipulative

Wooden MAB Blocks can be used for teacher demonstrations, maths rotations, small-group instruction, tutoring and individual hands-on practice.

The same set can be revisited as students progress from basic grouping and place value into operations, fractions, decimals, measurement and volume.

PAIR YOUR MAB BLOCKS WITH A VISUAL PLACE VALUE RESOURCE

Build a Stronger Place Value Teaching Set

Combine hands-on MAB Blocks with a visual place value flip chart so students can build numbers with the blocks while also seeing each digit positioned within its place value.

RECOMMENDED COMPANION RESOURCE

Ones to Millions – Place Value Flip Chart

This Junior Learning flip chart lets students construct numbers from ones all the way through to millions, providing a clear visual reference for understanding where each digit belongs.

Use it with MAB Blocks: build a number using Base Ten blocks, then represent the same number on the flip chart to connect the physical quantity with its written place value.

Place Value Flip Chart sold separately.
