Phase 4 builds on earlier phonics knowledge and introduces adjacent consonants and blends within words.

As children sound out words within each activity, they continue building confidence in reading and spelling.

This workbook supports children as they continue developing their knowledge of the 44 sounds of the English language and apply earlier phonics skills when reading words containing blends.

💡 Is Phase 4 the right workbook? Phase 4 is designed for children who have already worked with earlier letter sounds and phonics patterns and are ready to practise words containing adjacent consonants and blends. If they are still working through Phase 3 phonics, start there. If they are progressing into alternative vowel sounds, Phase 5 may be the next stage.
