📚 JUNIOR LEARNING • PHASE 5 FICTION
12 Decodable Readers — Phase 5 Vowel Sounds
Phase 5 readers use a strictly controlled vocabulary that follows the letter-by-letter progression. Text uses regular decodable words according to the week-by-week sequence together with previously introduced “tricky words”.
The fiction format gives children opportunities to practise increasingly complex vowel patterns within story-based reading while continuing to build decoding fluency.

💡 Is Phase 5 the right level? Phase 5 is designed for readers who have already developed experience with earlier phonics sounds and consonant blends and are now progressing into more complex vowel sounds and alternative letter patterns. If the child is still working with blends, look at Phase 4. If they are moving into spelling patterns and word endings, Phase 6 may be the next stage.
