Phase 5 Fiction Readers
Junior Learning · Letters & Sounds
12 illustrated fiction readers per selected collection. Choose Phase 5 texts for the phonics and reading practice your pupils need. Compare the options below before selecting your collection.
Teaching focus & phonics coverage
- Skills to practise
- Reading further letter patterns, especially alternative vowel spellings, and applying them in connected text.
- Pattern examples
- ay, ou, ie, ea, oy, ir, ue, aw, ew, oe, au and ey; split digraphs a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e and u-e. Other focuses include wh, ph and /zh/.
- Sequence matters
- The distribution of sound focuses and revision books differs between collections. Science books are listed as whole-phase revision.
- Match to your teaching
- Select texts after checking their spellings and common exception words against your teaching sequence. Discuss unfamiliar vocabulary as well as decoding.
Choose & build your Phase 5 reading collection
Compare the fiction and non-fiction collections at this phase, then choose the stories or topics that suit your learners. Set 2 offers different titles at the same phase.
Each selected reader option contains 12 books. Workbooks, teacher books and additional reader collections are optional extras, sold separately and not included.
Suggested classroom use
Suggested teaching routine. For group work, plan the number of copies separately if every pupil needs the same title.

Listen & support
