- Reading readiness
- Check the first story against the graphemes, exception words and vocabulary already taught. Interest in a chapter book and readiness to decode its text are separate considerations.
- Classroom use
- Plan short supported reading sessions, discuss character actions and revisit a section for accuracy and phrasing.
- Programme alignment
- The publisher identifies Rainbow Phonics for Jill Jet, Cricket and June Bloom. Check the selected book’s sequence before pairing it with another phonics programme.
